'Obi Wan Kenobi' Movie In Early Stages Of Production
After many months of drama in between Star Wars productions, there appears to be a "rey" of sunshine.
Stephen Daldry (The Reader, Billy Elliot) has been tapped to write and direct the upcoming Obi Wan Kenobi standalone film! Although this project was bound to happen, it's reassuring to finally get some clarity and confirmation that the project is actually alive and running.
Daldry has a prominent background in theatre and has directed a handful of films that have gone on to be nominated for Academy Awards. His most recent feature was 2011's Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close.
Production is in EARLY stages though because the script has yet to be written and plot details are still under wraps. In fact, production is so early that it's quite surprising Lucasfilm made the announcement so soon.
Since there isn't a script yet, no actors have been confined. Even Ewan McGregor who played the titular character himself hasn't been confirmed, but it's safe to assume he will portray the iconic character once more. It's also interesting to note that Lucasfilm decided to go with a veteran filmmaker instead of giving a younger indie filmmaker a shot at helming the project. This is synonymous to Lucasfilm hiring veteran filmmaker, Ron Howard, to finish production on the Han Solo spinoff that is slated for release next year.
