Blu-Ray Update 7/11/17!
After the drought last week, some great movies are finally hitting the shelves! Much diversity too as there is one action movie, indie movie, and even a family movie coming out this week.
The Fate of the Furious
First up is The Fate of the Furious, the eighth movie in the Fast and Furious franchise. It’s incredibly hard to believe that there are now eight movies in this franchise, but nobody’s complaining…or at least not EVERYONE is complaining because somehow the franchise is progressively getting more and more entertaining as it goes. Fate is another solid entry in the franchise. Although it’s not the best in the series, it’s still superior to previous installments and really delivers on the action set pieces that are just too fun to watch. Also, there’s much more Dwayne Johnson in this movie which is always a positive.
The Lost City of Z
Next up is The Lost City of Z, which was a much smaller independent movie that flew under the radar. The fact that it had a limited release didn’t help, but a majority of critics and audience members really enjoyed the true story of a man, played by Charlie Hunnam, that assembles a team to seek out an ancient civilization that supposedly doesn’t exist. The film is directed by James Gray and boasts some of the best performances of the year, in particular Robert Pattinson. Pattinson is someone who continues to be overlooked for his very understated and masterful performances. It’s unfortunate that many people aren’t discussing just how good he is in this movie.
Smurfs: The Lost Village
Last but not least is yet again another franchise movie, Smurfs: The Lost Village. This movie follows the Smurfs as they navigate through the Forbidden Forest in search of a mysterious, lost village. Oddly enough it’s very similar to the plot of The Lost City of Z, except the main difference between the two is that The Lost City of Z is a superior movie. Somehow these Smurf movies continue to get made and are really well at bringing in money at the box office, but this installment brought in the lowest numbers yet. This may very well be the last time we see the Smurfs on the big screen in quite some time, so make you sure you pick up the Blu-ray before it’s too late!
