Campbell is going to be joining her former “Scream” franchise costars David Arquette and Courteney Cox who will be reprising their roles as Dewey Riley and Gale Weathers respectively.

When discussing returning to the role, Campbell had this to say:

“After spending time speaking with Radio Silence, they have shown such love, respect and admiration for Wes Craven and all that he’s created in the Scream franchise. I am beyond excited to step back into the role of Sidney Prescott and return to Woodsboro.”

It was announced earlier this month that Jack Quaid, fresh off of “The Boys” Season 2 premiere from last week, will be play one of the lead roles in this film, however his character is currently unknown. Also set to star are Melissa Barrera, from the upcoming Lin-Manuel Miranda musical “In the Heights” and Jenna Ortega from Netflix’s “You.”

“Scream 5” was announced earlier this year, and is set to be directed by the duo Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett of the movie-making group Radio Silence, best known for co-directing segments in the 2012 found-footage horror anthology “V/H/S” and 2019’s horror-action-thriller “Ready or Not.”

When asked about the importance of bringing Campbell back as Sidney Prescott in the film, Radio Silence had this to say:

“We’re pinching ourselves! It’s hard to express how much the character Sidney Prescott shaped our love of movies and to have the chance to work with Neve is truly a dream come true. It just wouldn’t be a Scream movie without Neve and we’re so excited and honored to join her in Woodsboro.”

The script is to be written by James Vanderbilt, screenwriter of “Zodiac,” “The Amazing Spider-Man,” “White House Down,” and “Murder Mystery” among others.

Filming is expected to begin early next year, with production taking place primarily in Wilmington, North Carolina.

“Scream 5” will be distributed by Spyglass and Paramount Pictures and will release on January 14, 2022.
