Deadline reports that Canadian actor, Tatiana Maslany has been cast in the lead role in Disney+’s “She-Hulk”, a live-action series based on the Marvel Comics character. This news comes a week after the announcement that Kat Coiro would direct the series pilot and several other episodes.
Maslany - best known for playing several roles in the Canadian television series “Orphan Black”, for which she won an Emmy, will take on the title role of She-Hulk, the super-powered alias of attorney Jennifer Walters. In the comics, Walters becomes She-Hulk after receiving an emergency blood transfusion from her cousin, who is none other than Bruce Banner, the incredible Hulk, played by Mark Ruffalo in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. She-Hulk has the same strength and green skin as her cousin, but maintains her intelligence when she hulks out. It’s unconfirmed whether or not Ruffalo will make an appearance in the series, but he has expressed his interest more than once.
The series will be helmed by writer Jessica Gao, who is most notably a writer for Adult Swim’s “Rick and Morty”. “She-Hulk” is just one of the many Marvel properties making it’s way to Disney+ in the near future. In addition to “Falcon and the Winter Soldier” and "WandaVision”, which are expected to premiere on the streaming service in the coming months, Marvel has also announced planned series for Loki,` Hawkeye, Ms. Marvel, and Moon Knight.
She-Hulk first appeared in 1980’s “The Savage She-Hulk" #1, written by Stan Lee and drawn by Steve Buscema. Notably, she was the last major character that Lee, a comics industry icon, ever created.
“She-Hulk” is expected to premiere on Disney+ in 2022.
