Will Poulter Cast as Adam Warlock in 'Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 3'
The MCU is seeing one of it’s strongest characters from the comic books in live action for the first time in the third Guardians movie.
James Gunn confirmed through his twitter page on Monday that Will Poulter will be taking on the role of the cosmic being 'Adam Warlock' in the upcoming 'Guardians Of The Galaxy: Volume 3'. The third film will have Gunn return to the director’s chair after briefly being fired by Disney over controversial tweets from his past but ultimately reversing their decision after fan out cry and the cast signing a letter sent to Disney requesting they hire him back. Warlock was previously teased in Guardians 2 in a post credit scene where we saw the Sovereign leader, ‘Ayesha’ (Played by Elizabeth Debicki) reveals she has created something to destroy the Guardians and she called it ‘Adam’. Production on the third instalment in the GOTG franchise is set to begin in November.
The mainstream was first introduced to Poulter when he played 'Eustace Scrubb' in 'The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader'. Many now know Poulter as the 'weird eyebrow actor' from movies such as ‘The Revenant’, ‘Midsommar’, ‘We're The Millers’, ‘Detroit’, and the ‘Maze Runner’ series. He was previously connected to Amazon’s massive ‘Lord of the Rings’ series but had to exit the project due to scheduling conflicts.
In the comics, Warlock is an artificial humanoid made by a group of scientists on Earth known as the Enclave. (Though in Guardians of the Galaxy 2, it is heavily implied that the alien race the 'sovereigns' are the ones who will create him). He has had many run ins with different parts of the marvel universe including The Fantastic four, The Silver Surfer, Thanos, Thor, The Living Tribunal (who was briefly teased in ‘Loki’) as well as The Guardians of the Galaxy. Warlock has many abilities including that of superhuman strength and speed, flight, manipulate cosmic energy and he is immortal because Death cannot claim his soul. There are different incarnations of Warlock including Magus, the dark aspect of his being , and The Goddess, the aspect of Adams goodness. He created these two different beings when he was briefly in possession of the Infinity Guantlet, by expelling the good and evil from his being, so he could be fully a creature of logic. We don’t know which version of warlock we will see in the upcoming third film in the GOTG franchise but the setup from the previous movie suggests he may be used by the ‘Sovereigns’ as a bounty hunter to retrieve and/or possibly kill the guardians of the galaxy, which could suggest that we may not see the regular version of Warlock in his live action film debut.
