Netflix Closing In On 400+ Million Dollar Acquisition Of Two 'Knives Out' Sequels
DEADLINE EXCLUSIVE: ‘Knives Out’ Sequels Headed To Netflix. Filming starts June 28, in Greece
Reported from Deadline: Netflix is currently working towards a 400+ million dollar deal, bringing two ‘Knives Out’ sequels to their platform. After the success of Rian Johnson’s first Whodunit, a follow-up was very much expected at some point. Especially with a leading character like private investigator Benoit Blanc, perfectly portrayed by Daniel Craig. With Craig returning, and Johnson sitting in the director’s chair once more, there are plenty of possible conundrums that need solving and Netflix is the absolute perfect place to house the franchise.
Being made clear during the Covid-19 pandemic, streaming is the future for entertainment, whether being an advocate for the theater experience or not. Audiences have made it clear, continuing to show up for hybrid releases from the comfort of their home that whether or not they’re prepared to step into cinemas once more, it’s much more convenient to view the newest releases from their living room sofa. ‘Knives Out’ did incredibly well with both audiences and critics, sparking fan castings and plenty of Halloween costumes inspired by Ransom played by Chris Evans, and his infamous woven sweater. In a battle for rights also including Apple and Amazon, it seems the franchise found its best fit with Netflix. This has the perfect blueprint to be the biggest releases for Netflix’s slate yet and obviously by the large offer, they are fully prepared to reap the benefits.
Casting will begin immediately for the film, so it’s time to start trending on Twitter once more with our whimsical fan-casts. The film will begin shooting on June 28 in Greece. Netflix is expected to pay a sum of around 450 million dollars to acquire.
The existence of the first film played out somewhat by chance, simultaneously tying in with Danny Boyle leaving the ‘Bond’ franchise, leading to Daniel Craig being free to star. Rian Johnson was swiftly able to finish the script before Cary Joji Fukunaga stepped in to direct Craig’s last entry as Agent 007. To think we will get two more films from this universe is an absolute delight!
