Amazon Releases Full Force, Full Trailer For Season 3 of 'The Boys'
Television’s favorite vigilantes are finally coming back for a new season.
Amazon Prime Video has unleashed the crazy full length trailer for the third season of The Boys, the acclaimed, Emmy-nominated superhero comedy that hits the service this summer. Based on the Dynamite Entertainment comic book of the same name, the show was developed by Supernatural creator Eric Kripke and features an ensemble cast including Karl Urban, Antony Starr, Jack Quaid, Laz Alonso, Tomer Capon and Karen Fukuhara among others.
The Boys takes place in a world where people with superpowers work under the powerful company Vought International. One such group is The Seven, a powerful group of heroes that while appearing heroic in public are actually condescending, self absorbed individuals who care more about profiting from their image over truly helping others. The titular group, the Boys, are a renegade group of vigilantes out to stop the Seven and Vought. The show’s particular focus is on the leaders of the groups with The Boys being led by Billy Butcher (Urban) and The Seven fronted by the powerful but sadistic Homelander (Starr).
This new season finds the Seven suffering a PR crisis after one of its members is outed as a white supremacist and Homelander trying to do damage control while maintaining his crumbling life. Meanwhile, The Boys are going through their own conflict when Billy is given a powerful formula that will give him superpowers for 24 hours making his fellow group members feel like he is betraying his original morals to finish off the Seven.
The new trailer does a fantastic job at capturing the tone that the series has been going for in its previous two seasons while also hinting at something bigger and darker. In addition, we also get a first look at some new characters. The most notable probably being Jensen Ackles as Soldier Boy, a super powered human who may or may not be the one that could take down Homelander.
Since it premiered in 2019, The Boys has been one of Amazon’s most popular and acclaimed series and has earned praise for its writing, wit and performances. With so many comic book shows flooding the networks and streaming services, the series has stood out by focusing on a less known group of heroes while taking advantage of its gritty foul mouthed origins compared to the more family friendly MCU shows on Disney+ or the corny but still popular DC Arrowverse series on The CW. It even received a Primetime Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Drama Series award alongside prestige favourites like The Crown and Handmaid’s Tale.
It’s no secret that The Boys has a strong and growing devoted fanbase that has waited almost two years for the continuing adventures of Billy Butcher and the gang and Amazon is going all out to make this one of their big summer event releases on the Prime Video platform.
Expect much online buzz to follow when Season 3 of The Boys starts streaming June 3 in weekly instalments.
