Disney debuts first look at "Tron: Ares".

Disney released the exciting first look at ’TRON: Ares’ - the highly anticipated, new installment in the groundbreaking franchise.

It’s been 14 years since the previous ‘Tron’ film back in 2010, starring Garrett Hedlund, as the son of Kevin Flynn (played by Jeff Bridges), twho also played double duty as the antagonist, Clu. Olivia Wilde rounded out the cast as the new digital lifeform Cora.

Disney released the exciting first look at ‘TRON: Ares’, the highly anticipated, new installment in the groundbreaking Tron franchise. The film started production in January in Vancouver, Canada and is slated for release in 2025. Tron is a science fiction film that was first released in 1982, directed by Steven Lisberger. The movie is set in a computer world where programs take on human-like qualities and interact with each other within a digital landscape. Tron was notable for its groundbreaking visual effects, which incorporated computer-generated imagery (CGI) extensively, making it one of the first films to do so. While not a huge commercial success upon its initial release, Tron gained a cult following over the years and has since become a classic in the science fiction genre. It spawned a sequel, Tron: Legacy released in 2010, but directed by Joseph Kosinski as well as an animated television series and various other media adaptations.

Joachim Rønning will be directing TRON: Ares and says, “I’m excited to be part of the franchise and bring this new film to fans around the world. ‘Tron: Ares’ builds upon the legacy of cutting-edge design, technology and storytelling. Now more than ever, it feels like the right time to return to the Grid.” The sequel reportedly follows a highly sophisticated program; Ares, who is sent from the digital world into the real world on a dangerous mission, marking humankind’s first encounter with A.I. beings.

The feature film stars Jared Leto, Greta Lee, Evan Peters, Hasan Minhaj, Jodie Turner-Smith, Arturo Castro, Cameron Monaghan, with Gillian Anderson. Sean Bailey, Jeffrey Silver, Justin Springer, Jared Leto, Emma Ludbrook and Steven Lisberger are the producers, with Russell Allen serving as executive producer.

The film has started production and is slated for release in 2025.
